Description
Developing a Professional Identity in the Law is a year-long, first-year law school program consisting of 45-minute in-class talks and exercises designed to foster students’ understanding of what it means to enter the legal profession. Through accessible presentations and reflective discussions, students will explore how legal identity intersects with personal identity, the unique responsibilities lawyers hold, and how these are expressed in legal education, ethics, and professional conduct. The program aligns with ABA Standard 303(b) and (c), which requires law schools to provide substantial opportunities for students to reflect on foundational values such as cultural competency, equal access to justice, and the elimination of bias and discrimination. Emphasizing that professional identity development is an ongoing process, the program encourages continuous growth through intentional exploration and self-reflection throughout law school and beyond.
