Criminal Procedure II examines the criminal process, mainly after the police investigation ends and the adjudicative process begins. Some of the topics covered can include: the prosecutor's charging process, the right to the effective assistance of counsel, bail and pretrial release, discovery, speedy trial, plea bargaining, confrontation, double jeopardy, sentencing, and appeals. The course typically engages with various materials, such as Supreme Court cases, the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure, federal statutes, lower federal and state court cases, and applicable rules of professional responsibility.
